Convert Word Documents to PDF
Turn a Word document into a PDF that looks the same on every device. PDFSpark reads your .docx file and lays it out in your browser, keeping headings, bold and italic text, lists, tables, pictures, links, headers, footers, page numbers and footnotes. The text stays selectable and searchable, and the document is never uploaded.
Your file is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. Most online tools send your document to their servers and delete it later — this one never receives it at all.

Word to PDF: frequently asked questions
How do I convert Word to PDF for free?
Drop your .docx file into PDFSpark's Word to PDF tool and click Convert to PDF. The PDF is made in your browser and downloads straight away. The free plan allows 3 operations a day with no account, and there's no watermark on the result.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The Word file is read and turned into a PDF by your own browser, so its contents never reach PDFSpark's servers or anyone else's. That makes it safe for CVs, contracts and other private documents.
Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?
Very close for most documents. Text, styles, lists, tables, pictures, headers and footers are kept, but fonts are replaced by the nearest standard PDF font (Helvetica, Times or Courier), so lines and page breaks can fall slightly differently. Charts, SmartArt and drawn shapes aren't converted, and the tool tells you when it leaves something out. For a pixel-perfect copy, use Save as PDF in Word itself.
Can I convert old .doc files?
Not directly. The tool reads .docx, the format Word has used since 2007. Open a .doc file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and save it as .docx first, then convert it here.
Which languages work?
English and most Western European languages, including accented letters, currency signs and typographic quotes. The standard PDF fonts can't show other scripts such as Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic or Chinese, so those characters are left out and the tool warns you. For those documents, export the PDF from Word.
Does it work with password-protected Word files?
No. Remove the password in Word (File, Info, Protect Document) and save the file, then convert it. To protect the finished PDF instead, use Protect PDF.
