Unlock a PDF and Remove Its Password

Tired of typing the same password every time you open a statement or payslip? Enter the password once and PDFSpark saves an unlocked copy that opens freely. The file and the password are handled in your browser and never sent to a server.

Your file is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. Most online tools send your document to their servers and delete it later — this one never receives it at all.

Unlock PDF: frequently asked questions

How do I remove a password from a PDF?

Open the protected PDF in PDFSpark's Unlock PDF tool, type the password, and click Unlock PDF. The document is decrypted in your browser and saved as a new copy that opens without asking for a password. You need to know the password; the tool doesn't guess or crack it.

Can I unlock a PDF without the password?

Not if it needs a password to open. PDFSpark only removes open passwords you already know, and we don't offer password cracking. Files that open freely but block printing or copying are different: Unlock PDF can lift those restrictions, so only use it on documents you're entitled to change.

Is it safe to unlock PDFs online?

It is when the password and document stay on your device. Many unlock tools upload both to a server. PDFSpark decrypts the file in your browser, so the unlocked document and the password are never transmitted or stored. Only you end up with the unlocked copy, saved to your own device.

Is it legal to remove a password from a PDF?

Removing a password from a document you own or are authorized to use, such as your own statements, is generally fine. Removing protection from someone else's document without permission may break an agreement or the law. PDFSpark requires the password, which means it's designed for files you already have access to.

Can I remove a PDF password on Mac, iPhone or Android?

Yes. PDFSpark runs in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, so you can unlock PDFs on macOS, Windows, iOS and Android without installing an app. Choose the file, enter the password, and save the unlocked copy to your device's files or downloads folder.

Will unlocking change my PDF?

Only the protection is removed. The pages, text, images and layout stay the same, and the unlocked copy opens in any PDF reader without a prompt. Your original protected file isn't modified, so you can keep it as a backup or delete it.
