Compress a PDF to 1 MB
Scanned contracts and photo-heavy reports quickly grow past the 1 MB limit that many portals and mail systems set. PDFSpark recompresses the images inside the PDF until it fits, keeping text and vector graphics as they are whenever possible. The file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Your file is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. Most online tools send your document to their servers and delete it later — this one never receives it at all.

Compress PDF to 1 MB: frequently asked questions
What makes a PDF bigger than 1 MB?
Almost always images: scanned pages, photos and screenshots. Text and vector graphics take very little space, which is why shrinking the images inside the PDF is the most effective way to get under 1 MB without blurring the text.
Will the PDF still look good?
For most documents, yes. At 1 MB there's usually enough room to keep pages readable on screen and in print. PDFSpark shows the final size before you download, and you can pick a larger target if you want higher quality.
What if it can't reach 1 MB?
Very long scans may not fit. PDFSpark then offers the smallest version it could make and explains why. Splitting the document with Split PDF, or removing pages you don't need, usually solves it.
Can I choose a different size?
Yes. Pick another target size, such as 100 KB or 500 KB, or type your own, or switch to Lossless or Strong compression on the same page.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so the document never leaves your device, and there's nothing for us to store or delete.
