View, Edit or Remove PDF Metadata
PDFs carry hidden properties such as the author's name, the software used and creation dates, often twice: in the document properties and in an XMP metadata packet. PDFSpark shows you what's stored, lets you edit the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and dates, and can remove all of it before you share. It runs entirely in your browser.
Your file is processed by your own browser and never uploaded. Most online tools send your document to their servers and delete it later — this one never receives it at all.

Edit PDF Metadata: frequently asked questions
What is PDF metadata?
PDF metadata is information stored inside the file about the file: title, author, subject, keywords, the application that created it, and creation and modification dates. It usually lives in two places, the document properties and an XMP packet. It isn't visible on the pages but shows up in document properties, search results and file managers, and it can reveal more than you intend.
How do I remove metadata from a PDF?
Open the PDF in Edit Metadata, review what's stored, and click Remove all metadata. PDFSpark deletes the document properties, the XMP packet, XMP attached to pages and images, and private data left by the app that made the file, and none of it is written into the new copy. The file is processed in your browser, so it isn't uploaded while you're cleaning it.
How do I change the author of a PDF?
Open the file in Edit Metadata, replace the Author field with the name you want, and click Save changes. The change affects only the document properties, not the visible pages, and the XMP metadata is updated to match. It's a quick fix for PDFs exported under a colleague's name or a generic system account.
Can I change a PDF's creation date?
Yes. The Created and Modified dates are shown in your local time, and you can change or clear them before saving. Keep in mind that a date in the metadata is only a label: it doesn't prove when a document was really written, and other copies of the file may still show the original dates.
Why does the PDF title matter?
Many browsers and PDF readers show the Title property instead of the file name, and search engines may use it when indexing PDFs published on the web. A clear title looks more professional than a leftover name like 'Microsoft Word - draft3.docx'.
Does removing metadata remove everything hidden in a PDF?
No. Metadata removal clears document properties, but PDFs can also contain comments, hidden layers, form data, attachments or text covered by shapes. Review those separately, and use redaction when sensitive content appears on the pages themselves. Flattening forms before sharing also helps.
